Cooling is part of everyday home life in Louisiana.

Louisiana's climate puts air conditioning, airflow, and moisture control at the center of home comfort. The figures below come from the U.S. Energy Information Administration's most recent residential equipment data for Louisiana and its national household energy research. Each figure links to its original source and keeps the source date visible.

Methodology & Sources

How to read these statistics.

This page compiles publicly available U.S. Energy Information Administration data. Louisiana equipment figures are from the 2020 Residential Energy Consumption Survey state tables, published in March 2023. National electricity and household air-conditioning figures are from the agency's April 2022 analysis of that same survey.

Household equipment categories can overlap. For example, a home may report central air conditioning and an individual room unit, so those percentages should not be added together.
